Mohammad Ali

Syed Mohammad Ali is an anthropologist by training. He has extensive experience teaching at universities in Australia, Pakistan, and the United States, including at Georgetown and Johns Hopkins universities. Besides teaching, Dr. Ali  is a “Country of Origin Expert” for South Asian (Bangladeshi, Pakistani and Indian) asylum seekers in the U.S. and the U.K.  He has extensive experience working with multilateral and bilateral agencies, government institutions, and nongovernmental organizations on a wide range of socio-economic and political challenges confronting the global south.

Dr. Ali is the author of over half a dozen peer-reviewed articles, three book chapters, as well as the book Development, Poverty and Power in Pakistan, published by Routledge in 2015. His other publications include policy papers for leading think-tanks including the United States Institute of Peace and the Middle East Institute. Dr. Ali also writes a weekly op-ed in the Express Tribune, an affiliate of the New York Times in Pakistan, since 2011. He has participated in several panel discussions on international news channels including Al Jazeera, China Global Television Network, Channel NewsAsia and Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT).
