Undergraduate

GW undergraduate students may major or minor in religious studies. The Department of Religion's undergraduate curriculum offers topics to suit a variety of interests, with areas of study including Biblical literature, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, ethics, the sociology of religion, contemporary movements in theology and religion in American culture.

Our faculty promote analysis rather than advocacy of religion or of a particular tradition. The undergraduate curriculum bears out that philosophy with faculty focused on broadening students’ knowledge of the world's religions — their history, literature, traditions and community structure.

"My BA in Religion and minor in Peace Studies gave me the tools and research skills to better understand how to work with people within their own communities and context. After graduation, I served in the Peace Corps focusing on youth sexual health and eventually went for an MPH. I now use all these experiences to work in the political strategy space."
